However, the problem that pharmaceutical, and not Internet, companies faced was that their products could maim and kill people. Therefore a huge bureaucracy became involved in deciding what was researched, tested and approved for sale. Costs went up and the answer that the industry found was to bring in the concept of intellectual property. This made its products vastly more expensive and the process of designing and marketing them terribly inefficient. Is the Internet model applicable in the rest of industry?
