Mr Bennet, even in the act of acknowledging his blame, is aware of his limited capacity to face up to it properly. They, and even their mother, wish to holiday there, but only Lydia goes, invited by the young wife of Colonel Foster. Kitty is extremely jealous. Mr Bennet refuses, denying that the family reputation can be at all 40 damaged by Lydia.
