Man sieht, dass eine Vergrosserung des G eine sehr rasche Verminderung der Verbrennungstemperatur TIs nach sich zieht; es ist aber bekannt, dass bei grosserem G, also sehr verdiinntem Gase, die Ziindung nicht mehr vor sich geht.

Dann wird die Kohlenzufuhr abgesperrt und die Luft expandirt adiabatisch bis zum Volumen V2 , welches der unteren Kolbenstellung entspricht (weil Cylinder 2 dieses Volumen V2 hat). Druck und Temperatur der Luft sind in diesem Moment: p' = 43826 = 4,38 Atmosphiiren, t' = 223 0 C. ) angesaugt, denn V2 ist ja auch das Volumen dieses Cylinders. In dieses Reservoir ist die Luft komprimirt worden durch den vorhergehenden Abwartsgang von Kolben 1, und zwar unterhalb dieses letzteren und unter Einspritzung von Wasser, also isothermisch; der Enddruck dieser isothermischen Kompression wird durch die Steuerung nach Vorschrift regulirt (2,88 Atmospharen).
