The permanent collections listed here tend to be small and are owned by the Buddhist temples where the particular historical figure is buried. Perhaps the best example of this is the Shinsho-In, a temple in Hachioji to the west of Tokyo on the Chuo Line. Here is buried Matsuhime, the daughter of Takeda Shingen who was married to Oda Nobunaga's son. An effigy of her as a Buddhist nun appears in the main temple hall and her grave lies in the cemetery to the rear. There is also a small private chapel, not normally open to the public, which contains a striking wooden image of Matsuhime, together with pictures of her and her actual naginata.
