Cooper joined the faculty in 1965, when Shuford accepted an appointment at the University of Houston. Some years later, in 1968, when Toland became Dean of the Graduate School, Robert Baird was added to the departmental faculty. When Cooper assumed an administrative post in 1979, Stuart Rosenbaum was appointed to a position in the department. It was through Kilgore's initiative that the J. Newton Rayzor Seminar Room was established, appropriately remodeled, and appointed with especially designed oak tables.
